The 7th Annual Pentawards Classic Competition Packaging Awards Open April 15th
The 7th Annual Pentawards Classic Competition will be open for entries from April 15th to May 24th, 2013. Pentawards is the first and only worldwide competition devoted exclusively to packaging design in all of its many forms. It is open to the entire global community involved in the creation and marketing of packaging. To be eligible for this year’s awards, the packaging design must have been created or released in 2012/13, and a physical package produced before June 30, 2013.
Pentawards’ mission is the promotion of packaging design, not just to those in the industry, but also to companies, “economic and political authorities”, the media, and to the general public. The founders of the Pentawards, life and business partners Jean and Brigitte Evrard, are passionate about packaging. They founded a successful packaging design agency in 1976, have organized numerous packaging exhibitions in various cities, and have won more than 50 awards between them.
The six Packaging Design categories include:
• Beverage Packaging
• Food Packaging
• Body Packaging (clothing, body care, beauty care, health care)
• Other Markets (including household maintenance, home improvement, electronics, automobile, pet products, entertainment, business to business products and brand identity programs)
• Luxury (perfumes, spirits, gourmet food, high end jewelry and fashions, limited editions and series, event creations)
• Miscellaneous packaging
The winners will be judged by an international jury chaired by Gerard Caron, founder of Carre Noir and publisher of the site www.admirabledesign.com. It includes 12 recognized packaging design professionals from countries including Greece, South Korea, France, Thailand, Canada, the UK and the US.
Winners will be selected in accordance with the creative quality of the submitted work. Winners of the Bronze, Gold, Platinum and Diamond Pentawards will receive official certificates and handsome Metal Disc trophies that are the work of American artist Christian Heckscher.
The Diamond (Best in Show) winner will also receive EskoArtwork Suite10 software valued at €5000 (Euros), or $6680 CDN. A Sleever International special prize will be bestowed on the best creation in a limited series (also worth €5,000), and the Platinum Pentaward from the Luxury category will receive a booth at the next Luxepack Fair in Shanghai (also worth €5,000).
Winners will be announced in mid-June, and their designs published on the website shortly afterwards. Pentawards winning designs are also published in a glossy 400-page hardcover book by the famous art and design book publisher, TASCHEN. A look at past winners underlines just how much talent and creativity it takes to win this illustrious competition, with many of the designs total “eye candy” – exciting, jaw dropping and inspiring.
According to Pentawards, those who take part in the competition benefit from the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity and expertise, the chance to compare their creations with those of others from all over the world, and help to enhance the reputation of their profession.
The prizes (trophies and official certificates) will be awarded in Barcelona, Spain (date to be announced). To learn more about the 2013 Packaging Design Awards Competition, and to view images of past year’s winners, visit www.pentawards.org.
